This International Women’s Day we are getting ready to speak to four fantastic women, brought together by their drive to help create a better world for women everywhere, especially in relation to sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Leona Lewis, Georgia Arnold and Mallah Tabot will be in conversation with Laura Whitmore on March 13th. They will be talking about their experience of being a women in 2017, what this has meant to them personally and professionally, their take on female empowerment and answering your questions. Meet the women:
Georgia is the MTV Staying Alive Foundation’s Executive Director, and is responsible for leading the entire team and driving all elements of the Foundation’s operations, including content production, grant giving, fundraising and partnerships. She is also Senior Vice President of Social Responsibility for MTV Networks International, where she develops and implements social initiatives across MTV’s broad range of channels.
Mallah is a blogger, sexual and reproductive health activist and women’s rights advocate from Cameroon. Currently sitting on the Board of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation she also leads a team of young people through her organisation, United Vision which delivers innovative programs on HIV, sexual health and reproductive rights to women, girls, adolescents and young people in Cameroon. In 2015 Mallah received the Queen’s Young Leaders’ Award from her Majesty the Queen and was also named one of the 100 Young Leaders of 2013 by Women deliver for her work on women and girls’ health.
The British singing sensation has sold over 20 million records worldwide, and reached #1 in over 35 countries with her hit single “Bleeding Love.” A vocal powerhouse who is renowned for her vocal range and ability, Lewis is a 3-time GRAMMY Award nominee, 7 -time BRIT Award nominee, MTV VMA and World Music Award winner and has been nominated for MTV EMAs and Billboard Music Awards. Lewis became the first British female solo artist to top the US Billboard 200 album chart in more than 20 years with her debut album Spirit.
Leona is an extremely passionate humanitarian and animal rights activist working with a number of organizations including MTV Staying Alive. 2016 saw Leona nominated for a CMT Award and was recognized with the Music Pioneer Award at the United Nations Women’s Entrepreneurship Day. Recently, Leona has made her Broadway debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS playing the highly prestigious role of Grizabella, performing the world famous song “Memory’’. Leona is currently in the studio recording!
Laura Whitmore is a presenter, model, actor and jewellery designer. Laura started her career in media right here at MTV after winning the ‘Pick Me MTV’ campaign in 2008. Hosting news bulletins for MTV channels, Laura also reported from some of the biggest music and film festivals around the world. Having presented ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here Now!’, fronted the BRITS coverage, carried the Olympic Torch and taken part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, Laura is currently starring in ‘Not Dead Enough’ a new play by bestselling author Peter James.
