We look back on the highs and lows of 2013 and look forward to 2014

With the New Year fast approaching, join us in taking a look back at what an awesome year 2013 has been for MTV Staying Alive Foundation. Not only did we celebrate our 15th birthday, we got into a relationship with Durex and Bjorn Borg.

This year has seen many triumphs for MTV Staying Alive, including the launch of the Someone Like Me campaign and the on-air TV special “My Sex Life & Everyone Else’s”, which opened up a global conversation about sex and resulted in the donation of a colossal 10 million condoms.

MTV Shuga returned for a third series, this time relocating to Nigeria with a star-studded cast and a slick new look. The drama is estimated to reach around 300 million homes and continue to raise awareness of HIV in true MTV style.

Our 15th year has seen us open up a debate about porn with some of the world’s biggest porn stars, Sara Jay and Alison Tyler, and also get to grips with the “world’s biggest wanker” Masanobu Sato.

To mark our coming of age we celebrated in style; with Lianne La Havas, Eliza Doolittle, and Boris Becker all coming along to help us raise the roof as well as raise funds for the foundation.

As well as the high’s we have also experienced a big low this year, namely the loss of dear friend of MTV Staying Alive, Nelson Mandela. After working with Madiba closely over the years it was with great sadness that we wished him farewell on December 5, 2013.

We’re proud of what we’ve achieved in 2013 and can’t wait for what the New Year has in store. Here’s to 2014…
